March 19, 2019 Regular March meeting, at Bass Pro, upstairs conference room behind the footwear, 6:30 PM. New president Steve Davidson takes the helm. We will be showing a video on smallmouth bass fishing techniques and fly patterns. We will also discuss final plans for the Arkansas trip at the end of the month.
March 29 – April 1 , Magnolia Fly Fishers Spring Arkansas Trout Trip
Staying at Gene’s Trout dock on the Norfork river.
April 9, 2019 – The next tying meeting in Richland.
NOTE: The tying meeting is at the Richland Parks and Recreation bldg at corner of Scarborough Street and old hwy 49 across from city hall in Richland, 2nd Tuesday’s, 6:00, casting instruction in the adjacent lot (when enough daylight is available).
Fly Fishing Events of Club Interest
May 18,19 – Spring Catch n’ Eat in Leeville, LA with the Red Stick (Baton Rouge) club. This is a saltwater trip.
July 12,13,14 – Leeville Weekend with the Red Stick (Baton Rouge) club. This is a saltwater trip. This trip is the new name for GI Weekend as we no longer have it in Grand Isle due to accommodation issues.
April 6 – New Orleans Fly Fishing Expo – Featuring Jon Cave
The New Orleans Fly Fishers Club is proud to announce the Inaugural New Orleans Fly Fishing Expo! The Expo will be held on April 6th, 2019 from 8am to 4pm. The venue for the Expo is the Deutches Haus, along the banks of Historic Bayou St. John, in New Orleans, LA. We are also proud to announce that Jon Cave will be our Featured Guest for the Expo. Jon Cave is an author/photographer/lecturer and a USCG licensed guide. He has been a professional fly casting and fly tying instructor for over 25 years and is the founder of the longest established flyfishing school in the South. Jon has taught thousands of students and trained guides at various international locations. Jon’s credentials include an M.S. Degree in Natural Resources with special concentration in fisheries. He is a member of the Team Sage Advisory Staff, Rio Advisory Staff, Team Tibor, and Umpqua‘s Contract Tyer Program.
Jon will be hosting fly-fishing and casting seminars. In addition to our featured guest, the Expo will feature casting demonstrations/instruction, fly tying demonstrations/exhibits, Iron Fly competition, auctions, raffles, and equipment displays. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Casting For Recovery, Inc. We are very excited about the upcoming Expo, and we hope you can join us for this exciting event!
